From The President... As 1998 comes to a close and 1999 looms ahead, it gives rise to a great deal of reflection on ones past, present and future state of being. It has been mans philosophic quest for thousands of years since the beginning of recorded history to hypothesize on just what is our place in the grand scheme of things. I like to believe that we as Martial Artists are by our very nature more analytical and introspective than the average person so this quest is all the more relevant and intriguing. This subject is a vast, challenging and exciting one which Ill be exploring in future articles. Being that this is the last newsletter of the year, my primary area of reflection is on giving thanks for all of the many blessings Ive received this last year. No person in history, no matter how great, ever achieved their goals without a great deal of help. Id like to thank all UKS-affiliated schools for their continued support and loyalty; the UKS Advisors for their guidance and unconditional friendship; all of my BHKK students through whom this art will be carried forward; all Brown Belts who take on the lions share of the instruction at our dojo; Kathy Brown, Will Pemberton and Doug Parent for giving so much of themselves to the dojo off as well as on the mat; all Black Belt instructors for not only teaching, but giving me the opportunity to explore my own Kenpo by teaching them; to Cheri Harris for her very special dedication to her instructor, dojo and Association; to my wife Melissa for not only giving us our best year to date financially, but also for her pivotal role in our successful procreation efforts; and lastly, Id like to thank Mr. Parker for helping me to find my place in the scheme of things! |
