The Loss of A Kenpo Family Member...

By Michael Billings
Michael Billings Kenpo Karate, Austin, Texas

On April 30th at 6:30 AM, one of my Brown Belt students and his wife were tragically killed in an automobile wreck. The other driver was arrested for two counts of Intoxicated Manslaughter. Reggie McMahon had started Kenpo in the early 1980's with Brian Duffy, where I was also a student and instructor. He served several years in the United States Air Force and was in the Texas National Guard. Reggie was unstinting with his time and knowledge regarding his passion, Kenpo. His enthusiasm and genuine love of the art was conveyed to everyone he came in contact with. He provided a great example of a Brown Belt who moved very well and had an exemplary attitude. We all know how much that means coming from your teacher.

This tragedy touched everyone in our school. Their four children survived Reggie and his wife Melanie. Michael Billings Kenpo Karate students have made a donation to the McMahon Children's Trust Fund (c/o Coupland State Bank, P.O. Box 187, Coupland, TX 78615. Account No. 280026870). Tommy Burks has insisted that the proceeds from the seminar he is scheduled to do here in Austin on July 15th be donated to the Children's Fund.

We all feel the loss of a friend and true Kenpoist. Our prayers and hearts are with their family.

Oos Reggie!
